While, not an official department photog, I do take pictures for my department fairly often. There' s a few of my photos blown up to poster size hanging in some of the city stations in Sumter.

Now that the duty car carries a digital camera in it my photos aren't used. Besides I use a disposable camera and it takes a while to go through the camera. So I use my pictures for my own collection and to post on websites such as...firewebs and my webshots site.

I used to be the photo for my old station and a lot of my pics were on the stations website.

I'm currently shooting with a Canon Rebel XT. Since Canon has introduced the XTi prices for the XT are considerably lower then when I bought mine.

Holy snikes man!!! I guess if it takes pictures like what i've seen of yours it's well worth the price tag. Not too sure if the wife would let me pay out that much for a digi camera........but honey we really really need it.

Still cheaper than it used to be. When I bought mine, the body by itself (no lens) was about $850.

yeah you have to shell out to get a really good DSLR. Like Tommy, I take some photos for my department but am not an official photographer. i use a Kodak P880 which i hate. I want a new camera soon, but it'll have to wait.

Here's what I really want, but am a very long way off from obtaining...

Canon EOS-5D

In the meantime I hope to acquire some better glass in the next year or so.

Canon is a really good camera, but you dont have to spend an arm and a leg for a good digital SLR. ive been using a Kodak Z710 for a year and a half now and it does really well and wont bankrupt you. ive got right at $300 in mine and that includes a 2gb card a card reader and a 2 camera camera case and extra batteries too(i prefer the lithium) ill put up some examples that ive taken with this camera since ive had it.

this is the camera itself:
