Yeah, spotlighting has become a HUGE issue up here. I'd heard they'd upped the penalties, but that's crazy!!! It's about time they take it seriously.

We also have our share of poachers in my neck of the woods. Here you can spotlight animals after dark WITHOUT having a weapon in your possession through the end of September, but not during any of the fall hunting seasons for deer or bear.
These two idiots should both have been fined that amount and lost their hunting privledges for more than 5 years. In Maine you can lose your vehicle, weapon, and home if it's involved in any way along with a $10,000 fine, lifetime loss of any privledges under theDepartment of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife juristiction (like hunting, fishing, trapping, boating and ATVing) and up to 10 years in prison for poaching. Seems like a lot to risk for something as stupid as this. These guys give the rest of us who try to do the right thing while hunting a bad name and just fuel the anti-hunter's cause even more. Jerks.

Good for the game wardens. It pisses me off around here that there is so many people that shoot from the road and spotlight and you hardly hear about anyone getting busted. When I hunt I do everything legal and it never fails that I have a game warden come crashing through the brush, order me off my stand and wants to check my license and all the usual stuff. I've been tempted to tell him "ya know the guys that hunt illegal normaly hunt at night and there normally not that hard to spot. Just look for the pick ups parked on the road side at night about two miles apart with one in the middle. "
Yeah they have a system here with spotters and everything.
