QUINCY, Mass. -- Officials said an off-duty Boston firefighter and his friend were killed in a car crash while driving home from a New England Patriots game.
State police said the men were in a Lincoln LS that swerved off Route 28 northbound in Quincy, rolled and struck a tree at about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday. The driver of the car was identified as 26-year-old Boston firefighter Paul Loring, of the city's Hyde Park neighborhood. The Fire Department said Loring was an Army veteran who served in Iraq and joined the department in August 2006. State police identified the passenger as 25-year-old Patrick Forde, of Canton. Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said the men were lifelong friends and were returning from the Patriots game Monday night in Foxborough. The crash remains under investigation. Police said both men were wearing seat belts.

What a waste of two lives, and young ones at that. May they rest in peace.
